With correct diagnosis and early treatment and proper management, most children will have a normal life span. When NDI
is undiagnosed, bouts of severe dehydration in infancy can lead to mental retardation
and even death. There are documented histories of families in which as many as 10 young boys died before the age of 2. Fortunately, nowadays the disease is better recognized and early diagnosis or treatment allow most children to live a normal life span.
