An enzyme of the oxidoreductase class that catalyzes the oxidation of uric acid to allantoin with liberation of CO2 and H2O2. It is a copper enzyme, found in most mammals but not in primates; it is frequently used in clinical assays of uric acid concentrations. Called also uricase .
